I think it's about time for some sketchbook updates! Be prepared for lots of pictures!

First, my black sketchbook from 2011 that you've seen from the very beginning. I left off at this orange page & used a few subsequent pages while planning my thesis submission & wedding photography:

A watercolour colour wheel! My friend Angie is starting a regular blog feature with mini workshops & art tutorials & this was the first one.

It was a lot of fun mixing paint - I haven't played with watercolour all that much & actually only had blue, red & yellow, which was just enough!

I had lots of leftover paint after this though, so I filled in a few pages:

This butter yellow page will get filled, I'm just not sure what I want to put in the frame:

But that isn't all I did with the leftover paint. I wanted to paint an actual picture on real watercolour paper while I had all the colours mixed up! Here's what I came up with:

Not too bad for my first try, right? It was based on this drawing, though I wasn't looking at it while I was painting, I just kept it in the back of my mind:

That drawing is in a sketchbook I'm not going to show you right now. I may just have something up my sleeve for next year, but it's going to take a lot of planning & sketchbooking & hard work! It'll combine three of my passions: sketching, blogging & teaching..... but that's all I'm going to say for now! Stick around for more details, probably mid-October!

And speaking of leftover watercolour paint, that wasn't all! I also filled another sheet of watercolour paper randomly, to use in collage:

As you can see, I already used it to draw a couple forks & spoons for my Sketchbook Project 2012.

Here's how that book is coming along:

This is the spread with the watercolour collage, on pages 22-23. The green paper is a fancy handmade paper I found in a cool Mixed Media art shop.

I also decided what I wanted to do with pages 2-3:

Simple definitions cut out of a vintage dictionary. Not sure if I want to add more to these pages or not...

And another collage on page 8:

I was forced to rebind my book due to that pink collage above. The piece covers the page spread right in the middle of a signature, so I would be gluing over the threads holding it all together. As I mentioned before, my sketchbook needed rebinding since the first time I did it was too loose. So I did it in a different way & that it's much sturdier now:
